Consider the details

A turf plan begins with use, support and upkeep.

A softer counterpoint to paving. Plan the turf, drainage and edges as part of one finished outdoor space.

Start with use, not only appearance

A residential lawn, pet area and putting green need different product characteristics. Compare pile, backing, drainage and intended use, then account for Arizona sun and maintenance.

Compare the assembly, not only the green sample

Pile height, fiber shape, density, backing and intended use should be considered together with base, drainage, seams, edging and any specified infill. A lawn display, a pet area and a putting green need different performance choices. Ask for current product data and the installation instructions for the proposed assembly instead of choosing solely by softness in a showroom.

Plan the junction with paving

Turf and pavers need coordinated finished heights and restraint, but each surface keeps its own support requirements. Check the route taken by water and how equipment or cleaning access will work. Turf strips between stepping units need space for upkeep and cannot conceal unsupported paver edges. Reconcile existing irrigation and any buried services in the written scope.

Treat maintenance and heat realistically

Synthetic grass avoids mowing but still collects dust, organic debris and pet waste. SYNLawn's care guidance includes brushing, clearing debris and maintaining drainage; use the selected manufacturer's instructions for the actual product. Direct sun can make synthetic surfaces hot, while grills and fire features introduce separate heat risks. Discuss shade, daily use and care rather than promising a universally cool or maintenance-free lawn.

Questions worth asking

Before the project begins.

What changes between lawn turf and putting-green turf?

The desired performance changes. A putting green needs controlled ball roll and a purpose-designed support and contour plan; an ornamental lawn prioritizes a different appearance and use.

Is artificial turf maintenance-free?

No. Debris removal, brushing, cleaning and drainage checks still matter. Pet areas and heavily used spaces need an appropriate care routine.
